Widely regarded as one of the most influential creative voices of her generation, Mindy Kaling is an Emmy®-nominated writer, Tony Award®-winning producer, New York Times bestselling author, acclaimed director and actor.

At just 24, Kaling joined the writing staff of NBC’s “The Office,” becoming the only woman and the youngest writer on the team. She penned 23 episodes over eight seasons, more than any other writer. Kaling also earned an Emmy nomination, marking the first time a woman of color had been recognized in any writing category.

Her achievements have continued to garner national recognition. In 2023, Kaling was awarded the National Medal of Arts by the White House, the highest honor bestowed upon artists by the U.S. government, and received the Producers Guild of America’s Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television. Kaling is the creator, star and executive producer of the hit series “The Mindy Project,” for which she wrote 24 of the show’s 117 episodes over six celebrated seasons. In 2020, she created the Netflix teen dramedy “Never Have I Ever,” which reached 40 million households in its first four weeks and concluded in 2023 to widespread acclaim. She co-created and executive produced “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” which became the most-watched comedy premiere on Max in 2021. In 2024, she produced the Oscar®-nominated short film “Anuja,” a powerful narrative about sisterhood, exploitation and hope.

In 2025, Kaling co-created and executive produced “Running Point” for Netflix, which debuted as the No. 1 TV series in the U.S., surpassing one billion minutes viewed in its first week. The hit comedy was quickly renewed for a second season, which premiered in 2026. That same year, Kaling created and executive produced the Hulu workplace dramedy “Not Suitable for Work,” following a group of ambitious young professionals in Manhattan. The series premiered in June 2026 and debuted at No. 1 on Hulu.

Through her company, Kaling International, she has cultivated a distinctive brand rooted in sharp humor, emotional honesty and inclusive storytelling. Her leadership has helped launch the careers of diverse new writers, showrunners and creatives, particularly women and people of color, who have gone on to shape major projects across the industry.
