The #1 Program Across All of Television Is ‘World News Tonight With David Muir’ — Winning in Total Viewers, Adults 25–54 and Adults 18–49, Leading NBC by 1.5 Million and CBS by 3.2 Million Viewers

‘World News Tonight’ Grows Year to Year in Total Viewers and Increases Its Lead Over NBC Week to Week to Its Largest in 6 Weeks

‘World News Tonight’ Is Ranking #1 in Total Viewers for the 6th Consecutive Season and in Both Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd Season in a Row

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muirranked as the No. 1 program on all broadcast and cable television in the U.S. in Total Viewers (8.160 million) for the 2nd week in a row during the week of April 18, 2022, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

“World News Tonight” (8.160 million, 1.378 million and 909,000, respectively) finished as the No. 1 evening newscast on all of broadcast and cable across the board, outperforming “NBC Nightly News” (6.675 million, 1.104 million and 767,000, respectively) by 1.485 million Total Viewers, by 274,000 Adults 25-54 and by 142,000 Adults 18-49.

“World News Tonight” increased its Total Viewer lead over NBC week to week (+6% – 1.485 million vs. 1.402 million) to its largest advantage in 6 weeks — since w/o 3/7/22.

“World News Tonight” grew year to year in Total Viewers (+1%/+79,000 – 8.160 million vs. 8.081 million).

“World News Tonight” has won the last 177 of 178 weeks in Total Viewers and 106 of the last 108 weeks in Adults 25-54.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.511 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 6th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (7.248 million) by 1.263 million and “CBS Evening News” (5.201 million) by 3.310 million.

“World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 3rd season in a row. “World News Tonight” is surpassing NBC in both Adults 25-54 (+257,000 – 1.565 million vs. 1.308 million) and Adults 18-49 (+146,000 – 1.069 million vs. 923,000).

For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.160 million, 1.378 million and 909,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (4.924 million, 791,000 and 538,000, respectively) by 3.236 Total Viewers, by 587,000 Adults 25-54 and by 371,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: On Friday (4/22/22), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC” due to Game 4 of the NBA Playoffs between Milwaukee and Chicago. The retitled telecast is excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. Almin Karamehmedovic is the senior executive producer of the broadcast.
