Nick Grad
President, FX Entertainment
Nick Grad is president of FX Entertainment, overseeing scripted original programming including development, current series, casting, production and business affairs for FX and FX Productions. Grad was promoted to this position in October 2022 after previously serving as president of Original Programming.
Grad has been instrumental in developing FX’s slate of original programming that has received a total of 637 Emmy® Awards nominations and 134 Emmy wins, including an FX record: 93 nominations in 2024 and 36 Emmy Award wins, the most of any brand or streamer that year.
Grad most recently developed “Adults,” “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez,” “Clipped,” “English Teacher,” “Grotesquerie” and “The Lowdown,” and was a driving force behind “The Bear,” the Emmy Award-winning comedy series that holds the record for most Emmy wins in a single season. Grad also helped develop “American Crime Story,” “American Horror Story,” “Atlanta,” “Baskets,” “Better Things,” “Breeders,” “DAVE,” “Justified: City Primeval,” “Legion,” “Mayans M.C.,” “Mr Inbetween,” “The Old Man,” “The Patient,” “Reservation Dogs,” “Snowfall,” “The Strain,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “You’re the Worst,” and many more.
Under Grad’s leadership, FX built out a slate of docuseries and documentary features, including “Welcome to Wrexham,” the back-to-back winner of the Emmy Award for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program, “AKA Jane Roe,” “Dear Mama,” “Hip Hop Uncovered,” “Hysterical,” “The Most Dangerous Animal of All,” “The New York Times Presents,” “PRIDE,” “Social Studies,” “The Weekly” and “A Wilderness of Error.”
Grad served as executive vice president of Original Programming and Development since 2005, during which he developed the Emmy-nominated drama series “The Americans,” the Golden Globe®-winning drama series “Damages,” the Emmy-winning “Justified,” the hit drama “Sons of Anarchy,” the drama series “Terriers” and “The Bridge,” as well as overseeing FX’s growth in comedy with the Emmy-winning animated comedy “Archer,” “The League” and “Wilfred.”
Grad joined FX as vice president of Series Development in May 2002 and was promoted to senior vice president of Drama and Comedy Series Development in 2004. During that period, he helped develop the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning dramas “The Shield” and “Nip/Tuck,” the Emmy-winning drama “Rescue Me,” the drama series “Thief” and “Over There,” and the acclaimed comedy series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
Prior to joining FX, Grad worked for Columbia TriStar Television from 1995-2002, rising to the position of vice president of Comedy Development in 1999. At Columbia TriStar, he developed “The King of Queens” for CBS, and “Action” and “The Tick” for FOX. He began his career in programming at FOX in 1992.
Grad is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
