Anil Kurian
Anil Kurian is vice president of Scripted Series at Onyx Collective, a premium content brand under Disney Entertainment Television focused on elevating artists of color and underrepresented voices, delivering quality scripted and nonfiction stories to Hulu. In his role, Kurian has spearheaded development of Onyx Collective’s scripted series “UnPrisoned” from Kerry Washington, “Queenie” from bestselling author Candice Carty-Williams, “How to Die Alone” from Natasha Rothwell, and “Deli Boys” from Abdullah Saeed, starring Poorna Jagannathan, Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh.
Previously, Kurian was the head of Development at G-Unit Film and Television, developing and producing features as well as scripted and unscripted television series for hip-hop mogul Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Kurian has been integral in building a robust slate that includes over 20 television series in development across nine networks. Current television series include three spinoffs of the Starz hit series “Power” as well as “BMF” and an upcoming “BMF” documentary series also on Starz. Two more unscripted titles were greenlit straight to series, including “Hip Hop Homicides” at WeTV and “Confessions of a Crime Queen” at Discovery+. Kurian has also been integral in building a low-budget horror deal with 3Blackdot and Eli Roth’s company, Arts District.
Previous to joining G-Unit, Kurian was vice president of Programming at Sony Crackle, developing and producing original films and television shows for the digital entertainment network. He developed and produced projects that included two seasons of “The Oath,” executive produced by 50 Cent and created by former Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputy Joe Halpin, as well as three seasons of the Crackle hit series “StartUp,” starring Edi Gathegi, Adam Brody, Martin Freeman, Otmara Marrero and Ron Perlman.
Prior to Sony, Kurian joined the newly formed Intrepid Pictures in December 2005. Within a year, he was promoted to creative executive and later became vice president of Development/Production, overseeing development for 11 movies, including “Safe House” and “Strangers.” In 2011, Kurian produced the teen thriller “Crush,” starring Lucas Till and Sarah Bolger. Also while at Intrepid, Kurian developed and produced the supernatural thriller “Oculus,” directed by Mike Flanagan. “Oculus” starred Karen Gillan, Katee Sackhoff and Brenton Thwaites, and was released by Relativity and Blumhouse in April 2014.
Before joining Intrepid, Kurian worked for Endeavor and ICM talent agencies before transitioning over to j.k. livin Productions, Matthew McConaughey’s production company, where he developed projects set at various studios.
Kurian is a 2024 Cablefax Diversity List honoree, which recognizes the most influential multiethnic executives and D&I champions in the industry, and is also on the GoldHouse Creative Advisory Board, a premier network of Asian Pacific cultural leaders who foster an inclusive and representative culture of mutual support to power tomorrow for all.
Kurian graduated from New York University’s Stern School of Business with a finance and marketing degree in 2000.
