‘20/20’ REPORTS ON A MYSTERY DNA PROFILE, A YEARS-LONG SEARCH FOR ANSWERS AND THE BREAKTHROUGH THAT SOLVED A YOUNG WOMAN’S MURDER IN ‘HOME ALONE,’ FRIDAY, OCT. 2, ON ABC, STREAMS NEXT DAY ON DISNEY+ AND HULU
‘20/20’ Announces David and Kristen Mittelman of Othram Labs as New Contributors This Season

Allison Feldman was a young woman living in Scottsdale, Arizona, whose life appeared to be taking off. Her career as a medical salesperson was thriving; she had a steady boyfriend, a loving family and a wide circle of friends. That all changed one evening in February of 2015 when Allison was found brutally beaten and sexually assaulted inside her home. Detectives interviewed the people closest to her, but none matched the most critical evidence: a clear, unknown DNA profile recovered from the crime scene. Allison’s murder remained unsolved for years until advances in forensic familial DNA pointed investigators to a man with no known connection to Allison who held the clues to crack the case wide open. “20/20” contributors David and Kristen Mittelman of Othram Labs, one of the country’s preeminent forensics labs, share insight into how familial DNA works and how this crucial DNA evidence helped catch a killer. ABC News correspondent John Quiñones reports in “Home Alone,” Friday, Oct. 2 (9:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC and streaming the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
This season, David and Kristen Mittelman of Othram Labs join “20/20” as contributors sharing their expertise in advanced DNA testing and forensic genetic genealogy. Their Texas-based biotechnology lab is revolutionizing the way criminal cases are solved. When investigators have DNA but no name, advanced forensics can open an entirely new investigative path to finding perpetrators. Othram’s technology has helped to solve hundreds of cases, including some of the nation’s most high-profile, like the Idaho students’ murders and the Gilgo Beach killings. Now, as new “20/20” contributors, David and Kristen bring viewers inside the science behind forensic genetic genealogy and explain how a DNA profile can become the critical link between an unsolved crime and a conviction.
“For nearly two decades, David and Kristen have been at the forefront of forensics, and their expertise and state-of-the-art lab have helped solve countless active and cold cases,” said Janice Johnston, executive producer of “20/20.” “We are thrilled to welcome them to the team where they will give our viewers a fascinating look at the science behind solving cases and bringing answers to families.”
In “Home Alone,” John Quiñones travels to Arizona to revisit the crime scene, sit down with Allison’s family and interview law enforcement agents who helped solve the case.
