A FLORIDA NEIGHBORHOOD DISPUTE OVER CHILDREN PLAYING TURNS DEADLY WITH A MOTHER OF FOUR SHOT DEAD
Co-Anchor Deborah Roberts Reports on an All-New ‘20/20’ Episode ‘The Neighbor From Hell’’ Airing Friday, April 3, on ABC, and Streams the Next Day on Disney+ and Hulu

In Ocala, Florida, a longstanding rift between neighbors ended with a single gunshot fired through a locked front door when, on the night of June 2, 2023, 58-year-old Susan Lorincz shot and killed her neighbor, 35-year-old Ajike Owens — a mother of four — while her sons were nearby. Now, Owens’ mother, Pamela Dias, and 12-year-old son Izzy, speak exclusively with Deborah Roberts, opening up about Ajike’s life, the tragic event, and how they are dealing with the loss. “20/20” co-anchor Deborah Roberts reports on the all-new episode “Neighbor From Hell” FRIDAY, APRIL 3 (9:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC, and streams the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
Owens and Lorincz had been feuding for more than a year, and Lorincz had repeatedly complained to police about Owens’ children and other neighborhood kids playing loudly near her apartment. On the night of the shooting, Owens’ son said Lorincz swung an umbrella and threw a roller skate at him, which she has denied. Owens went to Lorincz’s apartment to confront her and began pounding on the door. Lorincz fired her pistol, fatally shooting Owens. The case has garnered national attention, and for the first time, law enforcement speaks out on the investigation including their numerous interactions with Lorincz — which were often captured on officer body cameras. Lorincz had told investigators she believed Owens was attempting to break through the locked metal door. The shooting sparked community outrage and Lorincz ultimately was arrested. Following a jury trial in August 2024, Lorincz was found guilty of manslaughter with a firearm and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
