ABC ‘WORLD NEWS TONIGHT WITH DAVID MUIR’ LEADS NBC BY 1.5+ MILLION VIEWERS AND IS AMERICA’S MOST-WATCHED NEWSCAST ACROSS THE BOARD

Season to Date ‘World News Tonight’ Is #1 for 10th Year in a Row and in Both Key Adults Demos for the 7th Year Straight

“World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.192 million), Adults 25-54 (801,000) and Adults 18-49 (584,000) during the week of Oct. 6, 2025, based on Live+Same Day Big Data Plus Panel Program Ratings from Nielsen Media Research.

  • “World News Tonight” beat “NBC Nightly News” (5.630 million, 787,000 and 535,000, respectively) by 1.562 million Total Viewers, by 14,000 Adults 25-54 and by 49,000 Adults 18-49.
  • “World News Tonight” increased its lead over “NBC Nightly News” week to week in Total Viewers (+2% – 1.562 million vs. 1.534 million) and Adults 18-49 (+88% – 49,000 vs. 26,000), posting its largest overall viewer lead in 5 weeks — since w/o 9/1/25.
  • “World News Tonight” (7.192 million, 801,000 and 584,000, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (3.555 million, 422,000 and 314,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+102%/+3.637 million), Adults 25-54 (+90%/+379,000) and Adults 18-49 (+86%/+270,000).
  • Season to date, “World News Tonight” (7.256 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 10th straight year, based on Most Current Big Data+Panel Ratings. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (5.736 million) by 1.520 million and “CBS Evening News” (3.649 million) by 3.607 million. In addition, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest Total Viewer season lead over the CBS program in at least 34 years — since at least the 1991-1992 season; the Nielsen electronic database started in September 1991.
  • “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 7th season in a row. “World News Tonight” (844,000 and 587,000, respectively) is leading NBC (793,000 and 540,000, respectively) by 51,000 Adults 25-54 and by 47,000 Adults 18-49. Additionally, “World News Tonight” is leading “CBS Evening News” (420,000 and 305,000, respectively) by 424,000 Adults 25-54 and by 282,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: On Monday (10/6/25), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC” due to the NFL. On Friday (10/10/25), “World News Tonight” was also retitled to “WNT-ABC.” The retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s weekly averages are based on three days (Tuesday-Thursday).

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. Chris Dinan is the executive producer of the broadcast.
