ABC’S ‘WORLD NEWS TONIGHT WITH DAVID MUIR’ BEATS NBC BY MORE THAN 2 MILLION VIEWERS ON MONDAY

‘World News Tonight’ Grows Lead Over NBC Week to Week in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 — Expanding Lead in Both Demos by Over 50%

‘World News Tonight’ Is the Most-Watched Newscast in Total Viewers for 9th Year Straight, Leading NBC by Largest Margin in 30 Years and CBS in 4 Years, and Is the #1 Newscast in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 6th Season in a Row, Outdelivering NBC and CBS by Double Digits

During the week of the MLB All-Star Game, “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the No. 1 program in Total Viewers (7.266 million) for the 4th week in a row on all of broadcast and cable during the week of July 14, 2025, based on Live+Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” has been the No. 1 most-watched program on television for the 10th consecutive week (with and without sports).

  • For the 2nd time in the last 3 years, “World News Tonight” outdelivered Fox’s “MLB All-Star Game” in Total Viewers (+1%+81,000 – 7.266 million vs. 7.185 million). In fact, “World News Tonight”’s victory marked only the second time that an evening newscast topped the midseason classic during the week in at least 33 years — the Nielsen electronic database started in September 1991.
  • “World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 newscast across broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.266 million), Adults 25-54 (1.037 million) and Adults 18-49 (710,000).
  • “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (5.583 million, 838,000 and 563,000, respectively) by 1.683 million Total Viewers, by 199,000 Adults 25-54 and by 147,000 Adults 18-49.
  • “World News Tonight” increased its lead over “NBC Nightly News” week to week in Total Viewers (+3% – 1.683 million vs. 1.636 million), Adults 25-54 (+50% – 199,000 vs. 133,000) and Adults 18-49 (+53% – 147,000 vs. 96,000).
  • For the 5th time in the last 6 weeks, “World News Tonight” widened its Total Viewer margin over “NBC Nightly News” year to year (+17% – 1.683 million vs. 1.442 million).
  • “World News Tonight” improved on the previous week in Total Viewers (+14,000 – 7.266 million vs. 7.252 million), Adults 25-54 (+5%/+48,000 – 1.037 million vs. 989,000) and Adults 18-49 (+6%/+42,000 – 710,000 vs. 668,000). “World News Tonight” was the only evening newscast to grow week to week in any key measure.
  • For the 4th time in the last 5 weeks, “World News Tonight” saw year-to-year increases in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+5%/+318,000 – 7.266 million vs. 6.948 million), Adults 25-54 (+7%/+64,000 – 1.037 million vs. 973,000) and Adults 18-49 (+6%/+43,000 – 710,000 vs. 667,000).
  • On Monday (7/14/25), “World News Tonight” posted its largest single-day lead over “NBC Nightly News” in Total Viewers (+2.097 million – 7.816 million vs. 5.719 million) in 6 months — since 1/9/25, based on regular telecasts.
  • “World News Tonight” (7.266 million, 1.037 million and 710,000, respectively) nearly doubled the performance of “CBS Evening News” (3.775 million, 498,000 and 348,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+92%/+3.491 million), while more than doubling its performance in Adults 25-54 (+108%/+539,000) and Adults 18-49 (+104%/+362,000).
  • For the 18th straight week, “World News Tonight” increased its lead over “CBS Evening News” year to year in Total Viewers (+19% – 3.491 million vs. 2.927 million), Adults 25-54 (+27% – 539,000 vs. 239,000) and Adults 18-49 (+15% – 362,000 vs. 314,000).
  • Season to date, “World News Tonight” (7.689 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 9th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.107 million) by 1.582 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.260 million) by 3.429 million. In fact, “World News Tonight” is growing its Total Viewer lead over NBC compared to the same point last season (+19% – 1.582 million vs. 1.328 million) to its largest in 30 years — since the 1994-1995 season. In addition, “World News Tonight” is increasing its Total Viewer season margin versus “CBS Evening News” by 11% (3.429 million vs. 3.090 million) to its largest in 4 years — since the 2020-2021 season.
  • “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 6th straight season. Season to date, “World News Tonight” (1.080 million and 747,000, respectively) is leading NBC (896,000 and 593,000, respectively), increasing its margins from the same point last season in Adults 25-54 (+30% – 184,000 vs. 142,000) and Adults 18-49 (+44% – 154,000 vs. 107,000).
  • In addition, “World News Tonight” is widening margins with “CBS Evening News” (601,000 and 410,000, respectively) by double digits in Adults 25-54 (+16% – 479,000 vs. 413,000) and Adults 18-49 (+19% – 337,000 vs. 283,000).
