ABC’S ‘WORLD NEWS TONIGHT WITH DAVID MUIR’ IS THE #1 PROGRAM ACROSS ALL TELEVISION FOR 14 WEEKS STRAIGHT
‘World News Tonight’ Grows Week to Week in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49
‘World News Tonight’ Is America’s Most-Watched Newscast Across the Board on Broadcast and Cable
‘World News Tonight’ Is the #1 Newscast in Total Viewers for 9th Year Straight, Leading NBC by Largest Margin in 30 Years and CBS in 5 Years, and Is the #1 Newscast in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 6th Season in a Row, Leading NBC and CBS by Double Digits

“World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the No. 1 program in Total Viewers (7.006 million) on all of broadcast and cable during the week of Aug. 11, 2025, based on Live+Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” has been the No. 1 most-watched program on television for 14 consecutive weeks (with and without sports).
- “World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 newscast across broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.006 million), Adults 25-54 (931,000) and Adults 18-49 (634,000).
- “World News Tonight” beat “NBC Nightly News” (5.715 million, 776,000 and 501,000, respectively) by 1.291 million Total Viewers, by 155,000 Adults 25-54 and by 133,000 Adults 18-49.
- “World News Tonight” widened its lead over “NBC Nightly News” year to year in Total Viewers (+8% – 1.291 million vs. 1.193 million), Adults 25-54 (+112% – 155,000 vs. 73,000) and Adults 18-49 (+1008% – 133,000 vs. 12,000).
- “World News Tonight” improved on the previous week in Total Viewers (+2%/+124,000 – 7.006 million vs. 6.882 million), Adults 25-54 (+2%/+16,000 – 931,000 vs. 915,000) and Adults 18-49 (+8%/+48,000 – 634,000 vs. 586,000).
- “World News Tonight” (7.006 million, 931,000 and 634,000, respectively) led “CBS Evening News” (3.756 million, 519,000 and 358,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+87%/+3.250 million), Adults 25-54 (+79%/+155,000) and Adults 18-49 (+77%/+133,000).
- Season to date, “World News Tonight” (7.647 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 9th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.062 million) by 1.585 million and ”CBS Evening News” (4.211 million) by 3.436 million. In fact, “World News Tonight” is growing its Total Viewer lead over NBC compared to the same point last season (+26% – 1.585 million vs. 1.260 million) to its largest in 30 years — since the 1994-1995 season. In addition, “World News Tonight” is increasing its Total Viewer season margin versus ”CBS Evening News” by 11% (3.436 million vs. 3.085 million) to its largest in 5 years — since the 2019-2020 season.
- “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 6th straight season. Season to date, “World News Tonight” (1.071 million and 739,000, respectively) is leading NBC (886,000 and 585,000, respectively), increasing its margins from the same point last season in Adults 25-54 (+62% – 185,000 vs. 114,000) and Adults 18-49 (+93% – 154,000 vs. 80,000).
- In addition, “World News Tonight” is widening margins with “CBS Evening News” (594,000 and 406,000, respectively) by double digits in Adults 25-54 (+15% – 477,000 vs. 413,000) and Adults 18-49 (+17% – 333,000 vs. 285,000).
NOTE: Due to a special report on President Trump and Russian President Putin on Friday (8/15/25), coverage for all three network evening newscasts was too low to be rated by Neilsen. ABC’s, CBS’ and NBC’s averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).
