‘World News Tonight’ Delivers Largest Adults 25-54 Lead in Nearly 4 Months and Adults 18-49 Lead in 2+ Years Over NBC

‘World News Tonight’ Is the Only Evening Newscast To Grow Year to Year Across the Board – in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 – and Improves Week to Week by Double Digits in Both Key Demos

‘World News Tonight’ Is the #1 Newscast in Total Viewers for 9th Year Straight, Leading NBC by Largest Margin in 30 Years and CBS in 5 Years, and Is the #1 Newscast in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 6th Season in a Row, Increasing Season Margins With NBC and CBS by Double Digits

“World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.133 million), Adults 25-54 (1.002 million) and Adults 18-49 (708,000) during the week of Sept. 8, 2025, based on Live+Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

  • “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (5.655 million, 767,000 and 501,000, respectively) by 1.478 million Total Viewers, by 235,000 Adults 25-54 and by 207,000 Adults 18-49.
  • “World News Tonight” more than tripled its lead over “NBC Nightly News” versus the previous week in Adults 25-54 (+222% – 235,000 vs. 73,000) and more than doubled its lead in Adults 18-49 (+188% – 207,000 vs. 72,000). In fact, “World News Tonight” saw its largest Adults 25-54 lead over the NBC program in nearly 4 months and biggest lead in Adults 18-49 in over 2 years — since weeks of 4/21/25 and 6/26/23, respectively.
  • “World News Tonight” posted double-digit gains week to week in Adults 25-54 (+12%/+109,000 – 1.002 million vs. 893,000) and Adults 18-49 (+20%/+116,000 – 708,000 vs. 592,000), hitting 6-week highs in both measures — since w/o 7/28/25.
  • “World News Tonight” improved on the year-ago week in Total Viewers (+3%/+200,000 – 7.133 million vs. 6.933 million), Adults 25-54 (+4%/+35,000 – 1.002 million vs. 967,000) and Adults 18-49 (+11%/+72,000 – 708,000 vs. 636,000), standing as the only evening newscast to grow year to year across the board.

  • On Wednesday (9/10/25), “World News Tonight” turned in its strongest single-day telecast in Adults 25-54 (1.233 million) and Adults 18-49 (932,000) in over 6 months — since 3/3/25.
  • “World News Tonight” (7.133 million, 1.002 million and 708,000, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (3.872 million, 574,000 and 432,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+84%/+3.261 million), Adults 25-54 (+75%/+428,000) and Adults 18-49 (+64%/+276,000).
  • Season to date, “World News Tonight” (7.605 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 9th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.030 million) by 1.575 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.181 million) by 3.424 million. In fact, “World News Tonight” is growing its Total Viewer lead over NBC compared to the same point last season (+24% – 1.575 million vs. 1.272 million) to its largest in 30 years — since the 1994-1995 season. In addition, “World News Tonight” is increasing its Total Viewer season margin versus “CBS Evening News” by 11% (3.424 million vs. 3.072 million) to its largest in 5 years — since the 2019-2020 season.
  • “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 6th straight season. Season to date, “World News Tonight” (1.058 million and 729,000, respectively) is leading NBC (878,000 and 578,000, respectively), increasing its margins from the same point last season in Adults 25-54 (+55% – 180,000 vs. 116,000) and Adults 18-49 (+84% – 151,000 vs. 82,000).
  • In addition, “World News Tonight” is widening margins with “CBS Evening News” (590,000 and 406,000, respectively) by double digits in Adults 25-54 (+14% – 468,000 vs. 409,000) and Adults 18-49 (+15% – 323,000 vs. 282,000).

NOTE: “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC” on Monday (9/8/25) due to the NFL and on Thursday (9/11/25) due to impacts from the special reports on Charlie Kirk’s shooting. On Wednesday (9/10/25), “NBC Nightly News” was preempted due to a special report on the Charlie Kirk assassination. The retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s weekly averages are based on three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), and NBC’s weekly averages are based on four days (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” airs 6:30-7:00 p.m. EDT on ABC. Chris Dinan is the executive producer of the broadcast.
