LEADING NBC BY 1.5+ MILLION VIEWERS, ABC’S ‘WORLD NEWS TONIGHT WITH DAVID MUIR’ IS #1 PROGRAM ON ALL BROADCAST AND CABLE
‘World News Tonight’ Is America’s Most-Watched Newscast Across Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49
‘World News Tonight’ Grows Week to Week in Total Viewers
Season to Date ‘World News Tonight’ Is #1 for 10th Year in a Row in Total Viewers and in Both Key Adults Demos for the 7th Year Straight

“World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the No. 1 program in Total Viewers (7.334 million) on all of broadcast and cable (excluding sports) during the week of Sept. 29, 2025, based on Live+Same Day Big Data Plus Panel Program Ratings from Nielsen Media Research.
- “World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 newscast across broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.334 million), Adults 25-54 (844,000) and Adults 18-49 (552,000).
- “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (5.800 million) by 1.534 million Total Viewers.
- “World News Tonight” increased its lead from the previous week over “NBC Nightly News” in Total Viewers (+4% – 1.534 million vs. 1.480 million).
- For the 2nd week in a row, “World News Tonight” grew in Total Viewers (+2%/+153,000 – 7.334 million vs. 7.181 million).
- “World News Tonight” (7.334 million, 844,000 and 562,000, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (3.593 million, 399,000 and 291,000, respectively) more than doubling its performance in Total Viewers (+104%/+3.741 million) and Adults 25-54 (+112%/+445,000), while nearly doubling in Adults 18-49 (+90%/+261,000).
- Season to date, “World News Tonight” (7.267 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 10th straight year, based on Most Current Big Data Plus Panel Ratings. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (5.771 million) by 1.496 million and “CBS Evening News” (3.686 million) by 3.581 million. In addition, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest Total Viewer season lead over the CBS program in at least 34 years — since at least the 1991-1992 season; the Nielsen electronic database started in September 1991.
- “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 7th season in a row. “World News Tonight” (865,000 and 585,000, respectively) is leading NBC (794,000 and 541,000, respectively) by 71,000 Adults 25-54 and by 44,000 Adults 18-49. Additionally, “World News Tonight” is widening margins with “CBS Evening News” (418,000 and 299,000, respectively) by double digits in Adults 25-54 (+28% – 447,000 vs. 350,000) and Adults 18-49 (+18% – 286,000 vs. 243,000) versus the comparable weeks last season.
NOTE: On Monday (9/29/25), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC” due to the NFL, and from Wednesday through Thursday (10/1–2/25), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC” due to the MLB Playoffs. On Friday (10/3/25), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC.” The retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. ABC’s weekly averages are based on one day (Tuesday).
