With Largest Viewership in 4 Months, ‘World News Tonight’ Grows Year to Year by Double Digits and Week to Week Across the Board
‘World News Tonight’ Is #1 for 10th Year in a Row, With Largest Margin Over NBC in 31 Years and CBS in 34 Years and Highest Season Viewership in 5 Years

- For the 14th consecutive week, “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the No. 1 program in Total Viewers (8.476 million) on all of broadcast and cable (excluding sports) during the week of July 13, 2026, based on Live+Same Day Big Data Plus Panel Program Ratings from Nielsen Media Research.
- “World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the No. 1 newscast in all of broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (8.476 million), Adults 25-54 (1.073 million) and Adults 18-49 (842,000).
- “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (6.684 million, 1.002 million and 772,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+27%/+1.792 million), Adults 25-54 (+7%/+71,000) and Adults 18-49 (+9%/+70,000).
- For the third straight week, “World News Tonight” improved week to week across the board: Total Viewers (+2%/+185,000 – 8.476 million vs. 8.291 million), Adults 25-54 (+1%/+15,000 –1.073 million vs. 1.058 million) and Adults 18-49 (+8%/+64,000 –842,000 vs. 778,000). “World News Tonight” hit a 3-month high in Total Viewers, a 4-month high in Adults 25-54 and a 6-month high in Adults 18-49 — since weeks of 4/20/26, 3/23/26 and 2/19/26, respectively.
- “World News Tonight” turned in double-digit gains year to year across the board: Total Viewers (+13%/+984,000 – 8.476 million vs. 7.492 million), Adults 25-54 (+11%/+108,000 –1.073 million vs. 965,000) and Adults 18-49 (+23%/+157,000 –842,000 vs. 685,000).
- “World News Tonight” (8.476 million, 1.073 million and 842,000, respectively) beat “CBS Evening News” (3.754 million, 472,000 and 309,000, respectively) by triple digits in Total Viewers (+126%/+4.722 million), Adults 25-54 (+127%/+601,000) and Adults 18-49 (+172%/+533,000).
- “World News Tonight” widened its lead over “CBS Evening News” versus the previous week in Total Viewers (+5% – 4.722 million vs. 4.503 million), Adults 25-54 (+7% – 601,000 vs. 561,000) and Adults 18-49 (+40% – 533,000 vs. 382,000), scoring its largest Adults 18-49 lead in nearly 4 1/2 years — since w/o 2/28/22.
- “World News Tonight” increased its margins over “CBS Evening News” year to year in Total Viewers (+25% – 4.722 million vs. 3.782 million), Adults 25-54 (+14% – 601,000 vs. 527,000) and Adults 18-49 (+42% – 533,000 vs. 375,000),
- Season to date, “World News Tonight” (8.333 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 10th straight year, based on Most Current Big Data+Panel Ratings. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.514 million) by 1.819 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.052 million) by 4.281 million. In fact, “World News Tonight” is growing its Total Viewer lead over NBC compared to the same point last season (+8% — 1.819 million vs. 1.679 million), its largest in 31 years — since the 1994-1995 season. “World News Tonight” is also delivering its largest Total Viewer season lead over the CBS program in at least 34 years — since at least the 1991-1992 season; the Nielsen electronic database started in September 1991. In addition, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest season viewership in 5 years, growing in Total Viewers compared to the same point last season (+5%/+361,000 – 8.333 million vs. 7.982 million) — since the 2020-2021 season.
- “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 7th season in a row. “World News Tonight” (1.036 million and 759,000, respectively) is leading NBC (937,000 and 656,000, respectively) by 99,000 Adults 25-54 and by 103,000 Adults 18-49. Additionally, “World News Tonight” is widening margins with “CBS Evening News” (523,000 and 381,000, respectively) in Adults 25-54 (+6% – 513,000 vs. 484,000) and Adults 18-49 (+7% – 378,000 vs. 354,000) versus the comparable weeks last season.
NOTE: On Thursday (7/16/26) and Friday (7/17/26), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “WNT-ABC,” and “NBC Nightly News” was retitled to “NBC Nitely News.” The retitled telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. The weekly averages of “World News Tonight” and “NBC Nightly News” are based on three days (Monday-Wednesday).
