ABC ‘WORLD NEWS TONIGHT WITH DAVID MUIR’ BEATS NBC ‘NIGHTLY NEWS’ BY 1.6 MILLION – 500,000 MORE THAN LAST YEAR

With David Muir anchoring from Texas to cover the mass flooding event, “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the No. 1 program of the week in Total Viewers (7.252 million) on all of broadcast and cable during the week of July 7, 2025, based on Live+Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” has been the No. 1 most-watched program on television for the 9th week in a row (with and without sports).

• “World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 newscast across broadcast and cable in Total Viewers (7.252 million), Adults 25-54 (989,000) and Adults 18-49 (668,000).
• “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (5.616 million, 856,000 and 572,000, respectively) by 1.636 million Total Viewers, by 133,000 Adults 25-54 and by 96,000 Adults 18-49.
• “World News Tonight” increased its Total Viewer lead over “NBC Nightly News” year to year by 46% (1.636 million vs. 1.119 million).
• For the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks, “World News Tonight” posted across-the-board gains on the year-ago week: Total Viewers (+5%/+363,000 – 7.252 million vs. 6.889 million), Adults 25-54 (+9%/+80,000 – 989,000 vs. 909,000) and Adults 18-49 (+7%/+46,000 – 668,000 vs. 622,000). “World News Tonight” stood as the only evening newscast to grow year to year in all key target demos.
• “World News Tonight” was up week to week in Total Viewers (+1%/+75,000 – 7.252 million vs. 7.177 million).
• “World News Tonight” (7.252 million, 989,000 and 668,000, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (3.874 million, 502,000 and 351,000, respectively) by 3.378 million Total Viewers, by 487,000 Adults 25-54 and by 317,000 Adults 18-49.
• For the 17th consecutive week, “World News Tonight” increased its lead over “CBS Evening News” year to year in Total Viewers (+25% – 3.378 million vs. 2.703 million), Adults 25-54 (+41% – 487,000 vs. 346,000) and Adults 18-49 (+23% – 317,000 vs. 239,000).
• Season to date, “World News Tonight” (7.697 million) is ranking No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 9th consecutive year, based on Most Current Data. “World News Tonight” is leading “NBC Nightly News” (6.120 million) by 1.577 million and “CBS Evening News” (4.274 million) by 3.423 million. In fact, “World News Tonight” is growing its Total Viewer lead over NBC compared to the same point last season (+18% – 1.577 million vs. 1.331 million) to its largest in 30 years — since the 1994-1995 season. In addition, “World News Tonight” is increasing its Total Viewer season margin versus “CBS Evening News” by 11% (3.423 million vs. 3.090 million) to its largest in 4 years — since the 2020-2021 season.
• “World News Tonight” is ranking No. 1 in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 for the 6th straight season. Season to date, “World News Tonight” (1.079 million and 747,000, respectively) is leading NBC (897,000 and 593,000, respectively), increasing its margins from the same point last season in Adults 25-54 (+29% – 182,000 vs. 141,000) and Adults 18-49 (+45% – 154,000 vs. 106,000).
• In addition, “World News Tonight” is widening margins with “CBS Evening News” (604,000 and 412,000, respectively) by double digits in Adults 25-54 (+15% – 475,000 vs. 412,000) and Adults 18-49 (+19% – 335,000 vs. 281,000).
