(NEW YORK – Sept. 1, 2026) Today, National Geographic published a landmark, interactive video archive that allows audiences to explore never-before-seen footage and eyewitness testimony from the events of Sept. 11, 2001, drawn from its catalog of 9/11 documentaries. Available now at natgeo.com/911archive, the archive offers an immersive, multi-perspective exploration of September 11 and its aftermath, bringing together firsthand accounts from survivors, first responders and eyewitnesses. The comprehensive experience invites viewers to delve deeply into the events of that day through the voices and perspectives of those who lived through them, providing a definitive account of the day in a groundbreaking new format. The digital experience encompasses over 100 hours of video footage, including more than 20 hours of footage never before seen by the public, originally filmed for National Geographic’s acclaimed “9/11: One Day in America” and “9/11 Reunited” docuseries, produced by 72 Films. The archive launches following the premiere of “9/11 Reunited,” which revisits the extraordinary human connections forged on 9/11. Created with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and Emmy®-winning 72 Films, all three episodes are now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
Featuring interviews with more than 65 individual contributors, the archive offers audiences the ability to sit with the day’s events through a unified timeline of the September 11 attacks. Viewers can sort and filter the approximately 500 video clips in the archive by time, topic and location with the freedom to explore and engage with the material as they choose. The experience combines stirring eyewitness accounts with cutting-edge data visualization, creating an immersive documentary that invites viewers to connect directly with powerful stories of hope, resilience and survival from that day. The firsthand accounts are presented as individual clips organized around specific moments and themes, while also offering viewers the option to experience each story in its entirety.
“National Geographic has been telling important stories from around the world for over 138 years. In the case of 9/11, one of the most significant days of the 21st century, we have gathered hundreds of hours of footage, both from the day itself and from intimate and moving retrospective interviews since. As a brand of record, it is an honor to bring a significant amount of this material together for the first time and to tell the story of 9/11 in a way that only National Geographic can,” said Tom McDonald, EVP of Content, National Geographic.
Complementing the interactive video archive experience, National Geographic has also published a companion digital feature by renowned 9/11 historian and author Garrett M. Graff that examines the critical 17 minutes between the first and second plane impacts at the World Trade Center. Through a detailed, minute-by-minute narrative, the feature provides additional context and insight, enriching the broader interactive experience.
